Gruene lies just outside of New Braunfels, between Austin and San Antonio. It's a charming little town with a number of shops, inns, a few restaurants (including the
Gristmill, which overlooks the Guadalupe river). But the star of downtown Gruene is
Gruene Hall, purportedly Texas' oldest dance hall, with live music every weekend. It's become something of a tradition in my family to visit this place each spring. My
dad has some more photos from Gruene, as well as from the cabins we like to stay at, called "
The Other Place".
